IMPACT Early Career Immersion Award
IMPACT is pleased to support Early Career Scholars with a 12-month translational or clinical immersion experience in thrombotic microangiopathies (TMAs). Early career scholars will complete a mentored TMA research project (at home institution), travel to a TMA expert site for an additional TMA immersion sabbatical (4-8 weeks) and receive online professional development in research methods. Physicians from all specialties that treat TMAs (hematology, nephrology, pathology, transplant medicine, etc) should consider applying.
Stipend:

- Mentored research experience
- 4–8 week TMA immersion sabbatical with a TMA expert
- Research Educational Professional Development modules
- Attendance at TMA research meetings to get detailed feedback on the scholar’s TMA mentored research project, network with TMA experts, TMA patients, and TMA care providers
Eligibility requirements:
- 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of an US fellowship or have an Assistant Professor or Instructor equivalent title at a US institution
- Able to commit to research and training activities over the course of 12-months
- Applicants must have a hematology or TMA mentor
Further requirements:
- Expectation that the research will be submitted as an abstract to International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), American Society of Hematology (ASH) or American Society of Nephrology (ASN) for presentation
- All awardees will conclude their internship with a 10-minute oral presentation at the USTMA annual meeting (attendance is required)

- Applicant personal statement describing interest in TMAs (limit 500 words)
- Short abstract describing potential TMA project (limit 250 words)
- Two letters of recommendation required:
(1) fellowship director or chair of the department stating they are in good standing and able to commit effort to research and training activities over the course of 12 months
(2) person who can attest to clinical and/or research skills of the applicant

Evaluation and Selection:
The review will consider multiple aspects of each application including:
• Leadership potential
• Likelihood of success (feasibility of project, mentor)
• Personal interest in TMA (likelihood of retention in the field of TMAs)

• Notified award status by May 18, 2026
